Homosexuality and HIV

When a person is homosexual it means that they prefer to have a relationship with a member of their own gender. Such persons are usually called “gay”.

For example, a male will feel comfortable having a relationship with another male or a female will feel comfortable having a relationship with another female. Some people have relationships with both males and females.

Men who have sex with other men are at high risk of contracting HIV and developing AIDS. Women who have sex with other women could only contract HIV if there is exchange of bodily fluids.

If you are a male having sexual relations with another male then you need to take precautions as any other person.

How do the principles of Brahmacharya apply to me if I am homosexual?

You can also live the principles of Brahmacharya by:

  • Striving for excellence in all domains of activities
  • Identifying spiritual goals and working to achieve them
  • Maintaining good social relationships with other persons
  • Staying away from sexual activities
If in a relationship, staying faithful to one trusted partner

If you are homosexual, you might find it difficult to be accepted by your family, friends, and community. This may lead to feelings of depression which could lead to risky behaviour. Ensure that you look after yourself and make the right choices for you to enjoy a healthy and fulfilling life.

"I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all.
But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him."

(Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita)
